Where Does Your Junk Actually Go? Our Eco-Friendly Disposal Process
January 2026 ยท 4 min read
Most junk removal companies throw everything in a dumpster and haul it to the landfill. We don't. Here's exactly what happens to your stuff after we pick it up.
Our 3-Step Disposal Process
Every load we pick up goes through the same process. It's not complicated, but it makes a real difference for Louisville.
Step 1: Donate First
Usable items โ furniture, clothing, household goods, appliances that still work โ go to local charities. We partner with Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, and Wayside Christian Mission. If someone in Louisville can use it, we make sure it gets to them.
Step 2: Recycle Second
Metals, electronics, cardboard, and other recyclable materials get sorted and sent to the right facilities. Scrap metal goes to recyclers. E-waste gets handled properly. Yard waste gets composted. We don't just toss everything in one pile.
Step 3: Landfill Last
Only items that can't be donated, recycled, or composted go to the landfill. We use Vogt Environmental Services, a licensed disposal facility. This is always our last resort โ not our first stop.
You Get Donation Receipts for Tax Deductions
Here's a benefit many people don't know about: when we donate your items, we provide itemized donation receipts. You can use these for tax deductions. Many of our customers offset a significant portion of their junk removal cost this way. We also provide before/after photos and detailed documentation for your records.
Why This Matters for Louisville
Every couch that goes to a family in need instead of a landfill matters. Every load of scrap metal that gets recycled instead of buried matters. We're a small business, but the impact adds up.
When you hire Billy Goats Hauling, you're not just clearing your space โ you're supporting Louisville charities and reducing waste in our community.
